SUSTAINABILITY AND CERTIFICATIONS
Império Estate has always worked according to the labor and environmental legislation effective in Brazil. The agricultural practices employed in the farm go beyond those standards to provide good quality of life to coffee pickers and collaborators and respect the ecosystem where the estate is inserted.
More than 615 acres of the property are reserved to the preservation of native flora and fauna, in addition to 87 acres that protect rivers and springs. The farm also keeps an ecological passage for wild animals. All residues from coffee processing are duly treated on the premises, recycled and/or reused; the coffee pulp is used as natural fertilizer in the plantations and waste water is treated and later used to enrich composts.
Império Estate employs 25 people and offers them adequate working and living conditions such as individual safety equipment, clean and organized facilities and wages that are higher than the average paid by other properties in the region.
Império actively collaborates with the social project called “Bola pra Frente” (or Kick Ahead in open translation), which organizes extra-curricular activities for children of the Buritizeiro community, The sustainable working conditions of the farm are recognized and accredited by international sustainability standards: since 2005 Império Estate is UTZ certified and since 2006 it has been certified by Rainforest Alliance.
As práticas de trabalho sustentáveis empregadas na fazenda são
reconhecidas e credenciadas por certificações de café internacionais:
desde 2005, a Fazenda Império é certificada pela UTZ e desde 2006, pela
Rainforest Alliance.

The Geographical Indication is one of
the most effective ways to protect and guarantee the origin of a product
produced in a particular region.
The Environmental influences, the
production process and the people involved create a differentiator for
the product, which shows originality and unique features only found in
that region.
